You have to pull the engine.

Merc PN 41802

You have to look in the drive section and the gimbal housing for the seal. They call it an oring, but it's not round.

Re: motor pull for leak?

well pulled the engine today and when i removed the exhaust pipe guess what i found? three old head bolts one wedged up against the relief port and the other two just banging around, i wonder if that was the ghost noise i was looking for. so i got to looking and found the bottom two stud nuts a 1/2 in from being tight, then i found the four other bolts there loose, i check the showing wood and thank goodness i found no rot, who ever had rebuilt the engine i gusse had the transome plates off and forgot to tighten this stuff down, so while i am in there is there anything else i need to check before i put her back together. as i saying i have grown to like. you cant fix stupid.

If the wood is good, time for coats of epoxy.
check everything, including bolt holes.

Re: motor pull for leak?

went back out and looking things over and i found something i know just aint right, the rear mounts has what looks like a fiber ring, but it has two lock washers in the middle of that ring where the bolts go through i know that cant be right, is it???

Those "double wound" washers are correct.
