Motor question

I have a 1989 Maxum (17ft) with a 85HP Force 3cl, the motor is bad and I have been told that it will be at least $1500 to fix. I would like to replace this motor with something else. Is there anything else that will work on it...can I put a higher HP motor on this boat? I REALLY appreciate any help!

Check the Coast Guard plate on the boat and it will tell you the max HP you can use then go from there.
Any outboard will work, you just have to get/use the controls for the motor you will put on.
