hi, my boat has a 898 305 i believe its a mc-1 out drive. i have no history on the 305 except it is very clean in the valve cover. rusty in the exhaust ports on starbord side. port manifold is missing. i can tear it down to see if its rusty or i can put a 383 stroker that i have in a jet boat. its 4 bolt main and all. what cam specs are you recommending for marine. i am going through the out drive so do i need to improve on anything in side or just rebuild it. i know the 383 is a tork monster but was hoping cam specs are close...jimmy the upholsterer:lol:

Re: motor question

I'm thinking that a 383 would rip an MC-1 to shreds.

Ayuh,.... Those look like reasonable #s for a marine application,...

If the 1st 2 #s were much bigger, or the last # much smaller, ya Might have issues...

also i forgot to ask should i change to later manifolds with center risers since im missing one and they are expensive for rear dump?

Ya, you can do that,... But,....
You'll probably run into fitment issues marring the center risers to the Y-pipe on the transom,...
There's several different cast elbows available, but I'm guessin' ya might have to build yer own to fit...

With the Stoker motor, the MC-1 will be Ok, so long as ya avoid throttle slam launches, or catchin' Air, off waves...

When the MC-1 finally gives up the ghost, a brand new SEI Alpha 1 is only 'bout $1,500. 'n should bolt right on....
that's pretty Cheap, in boatin' terms...
