I just recently rebuilt the carbs and replaced the plugs (the old plugs had a lot of oil although I'm not sure if they should have any) in my 1996 Johnson 130 in hopes of fixing a problem that is driving me insane... The motor starts fine and seems to idle somewhat OK (quits every one in awhile) but it will usually quit when I try to shift. Once I am able to shift without it quiting (it helps if I push the choke in as I am shifting), it will run just fine.

I thought that it may be the idle speed orifices but they were spotless when I looked at them. When I run the motor with the muffs, it seems to idle OK but you can hear a "pop" every few seconds with a good puff of smoke. I guess the mixture is getting too lean (too much oil) and that's why it pops and smokes?!?

I would appreciate any help!

Thanks,
Freddie
