Hello all,
I have a mid-70's Merc 500 50 hp 4cyl outboard on an 15 foot Ebbtide fiberglass fish and ski boat. Great combination. Only think that bugs me is having to wrestle the holder pin out of the trim bracket? when I go to raise the motor, hook up the transom saver and go down the road. Now I'm a BOB (big ole boy) so lifting the engine/motor is no problem, but it's a royal pain to hold it up with one arm and reach under and pull the pin/shaft out with the other. Sooner or later I'm going to bugger up that hand/fingers. Now the two forks that lock over the pin/shaft are spring loaded. They will tilt up, but is there a way to get them to tilt and unlock from the pin/shaft from above? Maybe I'm just dense and haven't discovered the secret yet. Seems like there should be a way to do this without putting your hand/fingers in jeopardy. Any advice is welcome.

Re: Motor release

tim Mc,
I had an older merc 650 and all I had to do was put the Shift Lever into FORWARD and it would raise the forks and unlock from the pin. Did'nt ever remove the pin. Just put in forward and lift! On these Motors, it does not lock when it's in forward, even when running. The Motor just pushes against the transom! You can check it out when it's on the trailer by putting your shift lever in forward and go look and see if the forks are in the "up" position. There should also be a swivel lever that locks the motor in the "Up" position, while you position the transom saver. Hope this helps! Rick

Hi Tim
Shift to forward gear to tilt motor. The lock actuates in neutral so you can rope start. Also locks in reverse so the motor dosen't kick up.
