I have a Merc 85 motor on my MFG Gypsy 15. I know this sounds silly but, before I start, could someone detail the procedure for disconnecting it and all the cables and then removing it from the boat?

Re: Motor Removal

Pretty simple. I assume fuel line already disconnected. Next would be control cables. Remove cowling trace cables to connection points, release cable ends then brass barrell nuts, remove cables. Remove steering cable from motor. Doesn't look like you've got power tilt and trim so next step would be removing thru bolts at transom. Unscrew transom clamps, screw a lifting ring into the top of the flywheel and lift off the boat with hoist.

Good Luck!

Ok,

All I need now is an estimate of weight and how do I store it? Short term.

Oh, and I know its water cooled so how do I test it without having it in a body of water?

Thanks again

Re: Motor Removal

That motor is 250# or so. Build a motor stand (see sticky) for storage. It may be run with a flush device. It is best to test run it on the boat.
