Hello, I have a mercruiser 3.0 (2007) Do I need to have the motor running when I torque the six bolts when connecting the lower unit to the upper housing???

no...what type of drive is it?

You should have drained all gear lube out before removing, meaning that there is currently none in the drive.

Put everything back together, torque it to spec and the fill with gear lube

So is what you're saying is that you haven't actually removed the drive?
You just noticed a leak and want to re-torque the nuts that hold the drive?

Can you tell about where the leak starts, keeping in mind that the drip may not be the leak, since gravity might be letting the lube travel a bit?

I can't see why you couldn't re-torque those nuts- but do keep a close eye on your lube level.
