I bought a 1988 mercury 200 black max and put it on my boat. went to the lake yesterday to try it out, it started right up but when i got it going it started to shake i could feel the boat vibrating a little, so i checked comp and it was 120 all the way around, i cracked the screw on the lower and it was milky but had no metal shavings. could this be the problem, when i bought the engine it did not come with the ss prop he had so he gave me a aluminum 14 1/4 x 23 but the hub is real long had to mod the lock nut to make it work, what would be the correct prop for this engine, i know hardly nothing about outboards . thanks.

Re: motor shaking

The LU needs service. It must have a seal leaking somewhere. Odds are the prop shaft is bent.

Prop pitch depends on the boat, and the way it's set up. It's like the gear that matches the engine to the load.

hope it helps

Re: motor shaking

I ran a 14 1/2 X 17 on my 89 200 hp Merc. Still have it sitting on the shelf and listed on local Craigslist.
