I still have one more question

Would a 10hp outboard motor be sufficent on a 14ft Glassmaster boat. I have no need for speed at this time since boat will mainly be for fishing and family outings (crusing) However my oldest daughter always has the need to go faster, my question is what kind of speed should I expect with this motor on a boat that size, thanks

Re: Motor size question

I have a 9.8hp on a 12' fiber. v-hull. With my father and I, fishing equip. we get going about 15-20mph. This is just a close guess as we don't have a GPS or anything. It does get us up on a plane.

Probably not much. I have a 9.5 on my 14' aluminum and with two people and gear it's slow.

There are heavy 14 footers and there are light 14 footers. I don't know which your Glassmaster is.

9.9HP should plane a lightly loaded light 14 footer. 10, maybe 15mph.

Speed is usually a luxury, except when you have to outrun weather some distance. Then it is close to a necessity. Keep that in mind.

Re: Motor size question

This boat is pretty light. I am not that concerned about speed unless like JB said weather becomes an issue. This is mainly a fishing vessel but for those occassions I need to outrun the weather , thanks

I'm thinking you should be fine. You may have a slow drive back if the wind picks up and the waves kick up. Overall I would do it if speed was not an issue. Think of it like a kicker motor.
