My 1988 force 125 was leaking oil and water was in it so I put a lower unit seal kit in it, things went pretty good until I got to the part where it said not to reuse the crush ring . I didn't have one since I didn't know I was going to run into that problem, so I used the old one anyway could this be my problem? It slips in and out of gear when idling ingear or very low speeds, when I give it more power it is ok.

It may be the problem, however, I would look at the adjustment first. Are you familiar with the shift rod adjustment? The adjusting nuts are not easy to get to. Sounds like the adjustment is off a hair.

Thanks if it could be that simpe that would be good, the shift lever is actually quit easy to get to, undo the pin and turn it a couple times.and try that

Re: motor slipping in and out???

i once had new impellers put in by a marina. Afterwards both motors had a tendency to conk out going into gear and the left (port?) one would slip in and out of reverse gear. The marina told me that they were old engines and the clutch dog was going bad. (but it worked before!)

All the engines really needed was to have idle speed adjusted in gear and shift linkages readjusted after reassembly.
