Motor smokeing Kinda white smoke

Hello, I have a 3.0 4clyd,been haveing trouble with it, its been in the boat shop(wasted money) but its smokeing, running and idleing rough. It will idle but cant get it down past about 1500 rpm or it gose dead and sometimes coughs up back threw the carb. The smoke smells real fummey n water has black in it coming out the back of the boat. I noticed that it want start by it self unless i have the idle screw screwd all the way in,looking down the carb barrels the two butterflys are wide open because the idle screw is all the way in. I dont think they are suppost to be that far open. The machanic says he rebuilt the carb but like i said not real happy with the work he did if he did anything. Can anyone help please? Thanks

Well bond-o this all startd after I put a rebuild kit in the carb. It was drippn after I would kill the motor. Never smoked before I did that. Now its smoken and idlen and running rough. But the machanic told me the carb lookd good to him,but like I said he didnt do a good job, there was gas in my oil after i got it back, n sumone on here told me to check to fuel pump could be letn gas in my block. Pulld it off and it did look bad so I put another one on,after that it takes gas alot better. Its not useing oil that would be blue smoke wouldnt it? This is a white ish black smoke if that makes any sence.

Have you messed with the idle screws at all? Also, does the exhaust smell rich? I don't believe the carb is right.

I have adjusted them every which way they were about 1 and a half turn out before I put the kit in. Adjusted the float to were its suppost to be. The smoke smell real fumey. Like i say looking down the barrels of the carb the two butterfuly has got to be almost all the way open for it to start up on its on without sumone back there given it gas as im turning it over. When it starts on it own its idlen at abou 1500 1800 rpms but a real rough idle.

I think you need to go through or replace the carb.
