I tried out my new 25hp Mercury 2stroke (tiller model) yesterday. I specifically followed the motor break in procedure- (run on all speeds but not at one consistent speed for more than two minutes, run at this procedure for the first hour.) After about an hour and a half I noticed the motor sounded louder and sounded like it was forcing itself. When this was happening I noticed a slight decrease in horsepower and the motor began kicking when I would shift gears. I don't know if this is a product of the break in procedure or it is just me being alittle precautious?

Re: Motor Sound

Sounds unusual to me......was it getting louder than that outboard should run?? I would say if it's acting out of the ordinary, you should have it checked out. That's the best part about having that new motor warranty!

Howdy, TX.

Sounds like you have had some slippage in the throttle and/or shift linkage adjustments.

Normally, the throttle must be at idle to shift, and the linkage should lock the engine from tilting when in reverse. Sounds like both functions are off.

Good luck. :)
