this is a 50hp mariner, 83model. I pulled the carbs, put in new seals, gaskets, etc. new fuel diaphrams, checked hoses etc..scenario goes like this: launch the boat, start motor, motor cranks, then dies, start again with throttle slightly opened, motor fires up, and revs high, i drop throttle down momentarily, and quickly put it in gear, an open throttle slightly, we take off, motor runs good, no hesitation, no trouble, after say 30 minutes at WOT, we bring the throttle to neutral, no problem, idles fine, put throttle in gear and idle forward (for instance, a "no wake zone" or trailering the boat), the motor kinks and stammers like its flooding or not gettine fuel, then dies. the only way to get it back started is to run the throttle up and choke it. At this point, you cant run the motor at idle speed in gear, you have to be atleast at say 1500 rpms to keep it running. Motor sounds good at 1500, sounds and performs well at all other rpms. I played with the adjustement screws while on the water the other day, but it didnt seem to make a difference from one turn out to two turns out, of course the motor would idle up and down, but at either setting, it would still eventually die, and be hard to start again.
