Motor Stand

I need to find a place to put my motor while I do some repairs to the deck of the boat. It will make it much easier to transport and avoid further damage to the boat during repairs. It is a 135 hp motor, so it is heaver than the smaller ones.

Does it need to be on a stand, or is it safe to lie flat on the ground.

If it needs to be on a stand, does anyone know where to find a stand that will support the weight and be stable?

Thank you,
James

Have you looked at the stickies in this forum?

Re: Motor Stand

Don,

Yes I did see the sticky on the boat stand. I also noticed that it was holding a 55hp motor on it. I'm sure that there is a weight difference between his and mine. My only concern is building something like that and coming home from the field and seeing my motor laying on the ground.

I have found out long ago, that mistakes are expensive. Since then, I have found out that it is better to ask lots of questions and save money and aggrivation.

That stand will support a 300 lb V-4 the way it is designed and built w/o any issues. ;)

The hardest part is lifting and transferring the motor from the transom to the stand and back again. It is awkward the way the weight is distributed.

Thanks Bob. Thank both of you.

It looks like I will be making a trip to Home Depot this weekend.
