Re: Motor Stands

Depends on the motor, Mo.

I have done that with engines up to about 150lb with heavy duty dollys, but wouldn't recommend it above that. I also would not recommend it with a cheap, simple dolly for anything over about 75lb.

Re: Motor Stands

i being a master carpenter by trade for over 35 years, do not like wooden motor stands, screws pull loose, bolts wobble, i like using aluminum angle and bolting it together. there's just to much stress and vibration when rolling the around. i can make almost anything out of wood, but i don't like wooden stands.

I messed around with trying to make due, and then I bought a carrier from Cabelas for around $50 OR $60 - Really, it's very nice, solid and so convenient compared to what I had cobbled together. It was well worth it.

Re: Motor Stands

I have several aluminum Garelick stands that I've purchased from an online Marine dealer found via google BUT if you've got any that are on the heavy side, over 130 lbs (like my '59 Merc Mark 58A), I'd then advise a metal stand as I've found that the aluminum can bend even though it's rated for that.
The metal stands are often sold by a guy on Ebay for about $50 which is reasonable.
