motor starts when i dissconnect main engine harness and jump starter

disconnect harness jump start it fires. connect harness turn key crank crank crank. put in a new ignition switch same thing. any ideas

if you have a ohm meter test the black/yellow wire to dc ground with harness disconnected and key turned on. If the black/yellow is grounded test the lanyard switch and key to see if one of them is bad.

had it a the lake for three days no problems. forth day was ou tfor a while stopping and starting the engine a lot. went to eat lunch and engine wont start. got home disconnected harnessjumped starter it fires right up. so I bought a new ignition switch same thing with key crank crank no pop. disconnect harness jump starter fires up.while engine is running I tried reconnecting harness.key in on position.and it died. strange

Sounds like your key switch is grounding out the power pack one of the gurus should chime in with a wiring diagram and a way to test it. Good luck

Do you own a voltmeter and know how to use the ohm's setting?

thanks for help. previous owner disconnected killswitch and had it taped up inside the remote. the tape that was wrapped around the black/yellow wire came loose and it was grounding out.had the boat out today starts right up with the key
