Hey guys i have a 93 johnson 30hp eletric start. Driving me crazy lol. I turn the key and get nothing. Heres what ive done so far. I bypassed the neutral switch. Check the fuse and replaced it(20amp). I put a new starter solenoid in it. Also new + and negative battery cables on it. Made sure everythings tight. Cleaned up the connections i could find. The key switch was replaced 2 months ago right before i bought it. If i take a jumper from the +ve battery post to the starter it cranks up. My key switchs choke still works. Also im getting 12vs on top of the solenoid and the key switch on B im getting 14-18vs and s terminal 20-60 when i turn it on. Ok so heres my question what am i missing? Please help me out on this im at a dead end trying to get it back running. Ran fine up to last sunday went to start it and nothing.

Is the solenoid clicking when you engage the key?

Okay let's see if we can figure out what's wrong with your setup. Being how you stated you already changed the starter solenoid and the battery cables to it as well, let’s see if you have everything wired correctly or even a broken connection. Take a wire and jumper it from the positive battery wire going to the starter solenoid and jump it to where the key switch wire comes in and attaches to the small terminal on the solenoid. If that engages the solenoid and starter (and it should if everything is wired correctly) then your problem is in the key switch and/or the wires going to it or coming from it to the engine... If that does NOT engage the solenoid and starter then your problem is the grounding side of the solenoid that usually goes to the neutral switch. It is a really simple circuit, but that one test divides where your problem exist. Hope that is understandable to you...if it still seems fuzzy, let me know and I’ll try to get a diagram to show it...

Sorry if i quote everything but it helps me keep track :). Ok so take a jumper and go from the positive battery wire on the solenoid and go to the small terminal on top of the solenoid ( in my case the one with the white/red wire). because the other small terminal goes to ground wires correct? sorry just want to make sure Im doing this right when I try it.

You said that you by-passed the neutral start switch. Check that again.

Don't forget to check the fuse again.

It always helps to have a separate ground from the neg small terminal on the solenoid to ground.I use one of the starter bracket bolts.I have had this problem before and that always cured it.

Dolenoid must have a ground wire from the small terminal to the engine block, use the one that the fuse wire is NOT hooked to.
