motor stops at WOT

I have a 1993 Johnson 60h.p. motor that stops running at WOT. The boat will troll all day long at an idle and even upto about 2500rpm's. However, if I run the boat for any distance at WOT, it will stop, as if it runs out of fuel. The motor will start right back up and I can run at about 2500rpm's again. I have replaced the entire fuel line system up to the carbs. I have checked the carbs and they are clean. The vent cap on the tank is working. One thing I did notice though. When I pump the primer bulb, it does not seem to get hard. I have replaced it 3x now and all seem to work the same. When the boat begins to slow down and stop at WOT, I have pumped the primer ball with no change and I have tried choking with no change. Any suggestions?

It sounds like you've pretty eliminated no fuel as the problem but try a couple more things before we decide it's ignition. Get yourself a squirt can with premix in it and as the engine dies, give it a shot or two of fuel, in the carb(s), and see what happens. If that doesn't do anything, pull the plugs right after it dies and see what they look like. If they're real wet, good bet it's an ignition problem. Check that and get back to us.
Do you have a manual for your engine?

c/6

Hooty

Hooty,
Thanks for the reply. I tried what you suggested and the plugs were fairly wet. I finally took the boat to the shop today and they ran some tests without me telling them what I had done so far. They responded to me telling me that the stator is bad and for a mere 190.00 plus labor, I will be up and running sometime next week. Again, Thank you. Bob
