just chunk it aside. we can repair it next year
the motor does not care about the cold. its the subsystems that need the TLC.

Might pull the plugs and spray some oil into the cylinders.

Stored inside or out, it should be prepared for long term layup/storage.

Change lower unit lube.
Fog internal surfaces to prevent corrosion.
Remove prop, clean shaft and apply new coating of grease.
And so on.

It will help to do a search of "winterizing" at the top of the page or click this link:

http://www.brownsmarina.com/tech-winter-outboard.html

hello
yep repair it again if you dont maintain it, the gas/oil mix will go funky over the winter and create fuel problems. this leads to carb overhauls, can lead to piston failures if you run it lean very long. so you have to traet the fuel system. I prefer that after runningFRESHgas not last summers mix with stabil and at least 50/1 oil through the system. then if possible drain the carb. if it aint there it cant go bad.
grease all the lube points, check for any corrosion thats forming chage the lower unit lube and inspect it for contamination fog the engine. if done properly that motor can sit with no worries. next spring start it and allow it to run on FRESH gas again, then change the plugs and go fishing.

And remember to hang it securely on a rack or sawhorse, fog the cylinders, and put a drip pan under it to catch gunk. I sometimes cover mine so the house warden doesn't have to look at it or smell it while its lurking down there for the winter. Also, pull the rope or spin the flywheel every now and then...to keep the bores/cylinders free.
