Hello,
I have a 1992 Bayliner Capri I pickup a few weeks ago for $800, it has a force 90HP. the boat and interior was in great shape as was the trailer. It runs but the #2 Cylinder has only 60# compression. I have been going back and forth with Jerry on it in another post. I just found a 1988 force 125HP 3 hours from my house. The guy selling said it runs great, has great compression in all the cylinders and starts right up. He is selling it for $500 for his neighbor who is old and can't use it. He said he doesn't know too much about boats but said it has very low hours on it.
Would you buy that motor and swap it out and then sell the 90HP the way it is? I looked and my Capri 1800 supports up to 125HP motors. I am a decent motor guy but I think I would just pay to have it swapped out. Can someone tell me what a ball park figure would be to swap them out and if you think it's the way to go? Or should I just replace the piston on the 90HP? It seems to me the swap is the way to go. I would love to have the Extra Horse power. I am guessing I could sell the 90HP motor for $500 just the way it is.
If decide to go for it how to you test for how many hours are on it?
Thanks,
Brian
