motor swap puzzled from 86 force to a 96 force wiring

Hiya I hope some one can help.

I just picked up a 1996 force by mercury today to replace my 86 force that died.

the harness on the 96 motor is a round plug with 8 wires i cut that plug off now i have just the 8 wires.

the harness from my 86 force was just 8 wires that went to the side of the power head but there are some different colors from the 96 to the 86 .

I know what most of the wires are on the 86 because it was marked on the power head what they are.But the 96 has no markings to tell what each wire in the 8 wire harness is.

Does anyone know what the 8 wires on the 96 force harness are so i can connect it right.

Look on e-bay for the manual for your new motor.They come on cd and will have the wiring diagram.Good luck.J

Hey Jerry how did the motor swap turn out... i'm doing the same thing but going to a 98 force, and tips or anything would be great
