How hard is a motor swap? Going from a 90hp Force to a 85hp Johnson? Are mounting locations different? Will I need anything special? Never swapped an outboard before,Need Helpful Tips. Also I need to know how should I re-seal the new bolts. And will I need a special hoist?

If you're lucky, the holes on the transom will line-up. Steering cable will be usable. That's about where it will end. Controls and wiring are all different. Many gauges are universal, many are not. If you have any, some may need to be replaced.

You can rent an engine hoist at a rental shop. Seal the bolt holes with a good quality clear silicone, as well as coating the bolts themselves when you install them. A little on the washers won't hurt either...

Measure the holes on the different engines to see if they are the same, if they are you are lucky ... invite a couple of friends over for a BBQ and get them to help you change the motor ... a 90 isn't that heavy .... why do you wanto swap them?

hahahaha, Dave it is definately not confusing to me, here in South Africa, Force/Chrystler outboards are not the greatist of engines, if you ask a marine mecanic here about a chrystler he will tell you it is a good idler, that's it ...
