My outboard is a 2006 Yamaha F90 (F90TXR). Here are two symptoms:

1) I tilted the motor up last weekend to prepare it for transit and noticed a very small amount of oil on top of the tilt/trim cylinder. This would imply a rod seal leak on the top of the unit.

2) No problems while on the bay all day. Ready to head home so I raised the motor and looked for more oil around the rod seal but found none. Instaled the transom saver and roaded the boat back home, which is approximately 100 miles. When I got home I found that the engine was tilted up several degrees. The only thing holding the transom saver in place were the bungee cords which were installed at both ends. This unit has never raised itself up on its own before.

Could a leaking internal [pilot] check valve in the assembly permit the unit to bounce up slightly while it is being roaded? This assumes that there is another [pilot] check valve that it is working correctly. Comments appreciated.
