Is the motor too long for the transom? I'm not sure how they are supposed to match up but the top of the prop is about 3 inches from the bottom of the transom.

Wouldn't think so. Prop in water, boat out of water? When you're on plane the boat is hardly in the water at all. I reckon if the prop was any higher you'd be pushing air.

I could be wrong!

looks like it is a little deep... Anti-ventilation plate should be roughly in line with the bottom of the hull. (some boats won't tolerate a motor this high, some might want it higher, but at least its a good starting place.)

Very likely that your motor isn't too long, but that it just is mounted all the way down. You don't have to hang a motor on the transom, there are multiple mounting holes for a reason.

How does the boat ride? Does it porpoise a lot or no?
Also, where are you using it? I've seen guys down here, (west coast, Florida)
purposely mount there motors lower because of bay chop. Helps keep the
prop in the water at WOT.

Like it was mentioned, there's tons of places to mount that puppy.
