I have a motor well in my sailboat with a Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke that dies when I am at idle speed . I think the exhaust is coming up through the motor well and starving the motor of air. When I am moving there is no problem. Any suggestions?
Is it possible to add a blower so fresh air is forced in? Can you open a hatch to the well, again so air gets in. I've heard of this happening, but have never had or sailed in a boat w/ a well.
Just think, it's worse with a 2 stroke because of the smoke. Anyway, I've seen guys make vinyl apron type skirts to seal the motor around the well and then make motorwell vents to the outside using large hose.
