Brilliant of me! I even posted this in the wrong forum 1st time around...
Hey folks, brand new to this and did check out the forum but need some direction. I have an 83 Bayliner Bowrider with a 130 Volvo Penta I/O. Just replaced the alternator and the battery. I have juice. Horn and all the gauges and electrics work but boat motor will not tun over, not even a click. Am I doing something wrong? Does shifter have to be in neutral? Where is Neutral? Does the outdrive need to be in a down and locked postion? I am ignorant...totally so please help! If someone would care to walk me thru some checks I would love a phone call as I was supposed to pick my son up to take him boating this AM. Perhaps it is a quick easy fix..508-479-0190...thanks, Kevin

--------------------
Kevin (in trouble if I am here)

Usually the drive needs to be in neutral to start. That would be the center position on your shifter (forward being "forward", and back being "reverse")

What is the history? Is this your first boat? Did it run last summer? Did you winterize properly? (could have cracked block.. hydrolock etc.)

-Dave

Bad solenoid, starter, or loose/corroded connections, bad wire esp. keyswitch to solenoid. Not really my business, but I would familiarize myself with the boat before I would take out the kids. Breaking down by yourself is a bummer.Breaking down with the kids can be downriight dangerous.
