Motor won’t turn off

Hey all long time sense I’ve been on here
my 78 800 merc runs great after rebuild but won’t turn off with key I have a Sierra 41000 ignition
i read an old blog on how to hook switch up
havnt done it that way yet should hooking it up that way solve my problem

Your motor should have a 4 coil ADI ignition. To kill the ignition, the orange wire should be grounded at the ignition switch.

If the motor is older than 1976, it should have a battery powered CDI ignition with a distributor and one coil. To kill ignition on that style, the white wire is disconnected from battery power at the ignition switch.

4 coils I did try and ground it on switch but didn’t work I left old choke I think I need to bypass it and go to push to choke on new switch I’m not sure what the white does if anything I did ohm out harness all check good everything is new on power head

The white wire on your motor powers the tachometer and the choke solenoid. That is all

I had a ground issue had to move my bonding strap works like a charm
