motor wont start on ground

I have a question regarding starting motor on ground I have water I have fuel but for some reason the battery is lagging it slowly turns over a couple of times then tahts it, its not the battery I thought it was at first so I took the one out of my truck and same thing then I hooked up both in series and same thing I have jumper cables positive going to positive on starter ,ground going to ground on motor and a hot wire on pos. coil and then wire to start on selenoid the cables are getting hot ,they are cheap ones are they to thin maybe,I am getting puffs of smoke its close its just the battery is not turning it good enough any help would be appreciated thank you

corroded ,too small of a battery cable (#2 or better preferred), bad starter

So you just sent 24 volts to the starter and coil???

I think you mean parallel I hope. If the wires are getting hot then there is a short,starter going bad or they are just not thick enough...

I will try thicker cables as far as series or parallel goes, I hooked up neg to neg pos to pos I dont know if thats series or parallel I do i believe that is still 12 volts

Then you ran it parallel. Just added more amperage potential...
