motor year

I am looking at a used motor. I was told it is a 1979 with this ID number 8569304673
Can anyone confirm the year of this motor and tell me how to determine the year from the serial number.

That number is neither a Johnson or Evinrude serial number. Look on the transom bracket and look for the model number. Failing that, post some photos or at the very least a description of the motor as you have really given us nothing. Even the horse power of it would be a start.

Sorry it is an 85 Hp and this is the only number that was sent to me. I have not seen this motor yet. What indicates the year in the serial number?
