Re: motorguide assembly question....
personally, i did add silicone to them. i broke down 2 TM's of my boats, and didn't buy any extra's. i used the same scrawny o-rings. but i put ultrablue around them when i re-assmbld them. am i a TM expert- no way. but they've done fine.

oh yeah, i forgot, i did replace the brushes the 1st time. i used to repair starters, and i firmly believe any interested person can do this job. i went to starter shops with the old brushes, and basically looked for brushes with similar copper leads with a hope for similar brush size. i think i lucked up with nippondenso brushes, but not sure.

anyhow, you can simply sand the brushes to size, as in using a sanding block in a vice, whatever. if you know how to weld, then you are ready. i used a carbon arc/6v batt in the past, but nowadays, if you've ever fixed a radiator, you can do it. i used o2/actl and with low heat did the job.

this might be too redneck for most, but it works for me. i think a TM can be maintained just as you would a starter in the car. it's up to you

(amended): autorepair stores carry everything.well maybe not. but they should carry silicone. ultrablue or black or red...i've been out of the loop for a while
