I have a Tracker Pro Series 40 Motorguide and while fishing it just blew a breaker so I replaced the fuse and fished a few minutes and it blew another. I then proceeded to unplug it and the connection was very hot. I caecked all external wiring and everything looks good. Any ideas??

Breakers don't blow -- fuses do. Breakers are switches and are reset either manually or automatically. Are you saying there is a fuse and a circuit breaker in the trolling motor circuit? If the socket is hot, it needs to be either cleaned or replaced as the connections are not tight. This creates resistance, resistance creates heat, and the breaker and/or fuse will blow.

Yes, it's a 30 amp fuse. The connects are fairly new but I will try a new set, thanks for your help

Re: Motorguide Blowing Breakers

swab- this sounds extreme but I have seen it now a few times and think you should have it looked at. I have found on the last 3 MG's I've disassembled that the lower unit housings have leaked and allowed water in. It corrodes the armature and that rust gets on the brushes. That causes high resistance and that causes the breakers to open/fuses to pop. It isn't hard to open the L/U and check it but you'll need a new O-ring to put it back together again.

That's the worst case. In the meantime, check your connections and the cables themselves.

UFM82

UFM82,

Thanks, that sounds like it might just be the case. I was in the middle of using it when it happened and it was working fine for an hour or so then the problem just started and I hadn't touched the connector, which is really new anyway. I'll let you know how I fair
