I recently purchased a Brute 767 that is 12/24v. This is my first bow mount, pedal controlled troller, so I'm venturing into unknown territory. The wiring from the female plug to the battery(ies) has one set of black and red and one set of black/white stripe and red/white stripe. I was told by the guy that I bought it from that if I just wired up one set to one battery, I can just run it all the time on 12V (assuming I leave the pedal switch in the 12v position). I did that and the motor is not working, on either set of wires. Now I have to figure out if I got ripped off and bought a broken motor or if he was just wrong in saying that I could run it 12v off two wires. I am converting an old 1950's 16' smokercraft into a tiny bass boat, and was trying to just run everything on 12v/one battery, to save weight...and money. I've built hatches/space for two batteries but really would like to avoid having to add all that weight. Any suggestions?

Additionally, if I do have to buy another battery and all my other equipment is 12v, can I just connect the other equipment to just one battery, but connect the 767 to both batteries? I know based on the picture I attached how to connect the motor alone, but I just want to be sure I don't mess up my finder/lights/etc. Probably a dumb question but like I said, this all new territory for me. Thanks for any help you can give!
