Motorguide mounting question

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for me? I can get a really good deal on a motorguide 24v gator mount trolling motor from a friend of mine (don't know the model #) It's an older model with the stainless steel shaft but in really good condition. I currently have a 21ft stratos bass boat that has a 24v johnson trolling motor that is just about dead. Don't get me wrong, it's been an awesome trolling motor, but I've fixed and reparied it so many times, that I think it's about done. Anyways, I was wondering if the motorguide would be a good replacement for it. The bow of my boat where you mount the trolling motor is rather small and the johnson pretty much filled it up. Now the motorguide with the gator mount is much larger and I'm wondering how it would fit on my bow if at all, and I was hoping someone could shed a little light on how to do it, if it's even possible.

I appreciate any help anyone can provide.

Re: Motorguide mounting question

Without some pictures its difficult to offer suggestions. Most trollers regardless of age need an area only about 5 inches wide and a foot or so long to mount them. Quick release mounting plates are also availabe that may help.

Re: Motorguide mounting question

Thanks for the responses. I guess I was just worried that this motorguide was so big that there wouldn't be enough room for it on the deck. I guess I'm ok with mounting because I have that much room available on my 1990 Stratos 201 Pro. Would the extra bulk of the motorguide hang over in front of the boat a little or would it basically be the same as my old Johnson trolling motor. I'm sorry that I don't have any pics to post. I will try to get a few later this evening and post them for you to look at. I don't have the motorguide yet. I plan on picking it up later this evening too!

Thanks for your help.

We can't see your boat so we have no idea how old or what either type of motor you had looks like or what style they are.

Re: Motorguide mounting question

Sorry I haven't posted back in a while. I haven't got any pics yet. I went ahead and bought the motorguide trolling motor. It is a 50lb thrust brute trolling motor and it mounted just fine on my boat. It is considerably bigger than my old johnson trolling motor but I still had enough room to mount it. I went to the lake yesterday and tried it out and it works beautifully. It's very easy to drive unlike my other motor (believe the cables were shot). The only complaint I have with this motor is that it doesn't appear to have a light for the directional arrow and I do a lot of night fishing and really need the light. I took off the top to see if there might be an outlet for a small bulb and there is not. Does anyone know if they make a top for this motor that has a built in light for night driving?

Thanks again.
