Good day,

I have a 1974 Johnson 25 hp, model#25E74, serial #C47280 which I will mount on the back of my 14 foot Springbok aluminum fishing boat. Boat has a 15" transom whereas the motor has an approximately 17-17.5" leg. When hung the ventilation plate (cavitation plate) is approximately 2-2.5" below the hull bottom. Is this fine? Or should I make a spacer to raise the ventilation plate up to even with the hull bottom? Or can I just raise it so the plate is only 0.5" below the hull?

Another silly question, if I raise the motor up the full 2.5" does the motor still get water under power as the water intake is above the ventilation plate?

Thanks for any info.

The plate should be even or just slightly above the bottom depending on which prop you use.

If you mount it that low there will most likely be some water shooting straight up the transome as well as efficiency and/or handling issues.

Good luck!
