I have a 1988 Seaswirl Sable that I am attempting to mount a 8 hp four stroke yamaha high thrust with a panther 4 stroke motor bracket to. The thick part of the transom is half way down which will not allow for proper mounting of the outboard (cavitation plate two inches below the water line). The place where I would like to mount the bracket for the outboard appears to be 3/8? thick. Is the fiberglass sturdy enough to mount the engine to with a 3/4" thick piece of marine plywood as a backing plate?

I would say NO. Not strong enough. Mount it in the low position....who cares where the CP is? That motor will not plane the boat anyway. You're stuck with displacement speed. All you need to ensure is that the prop is below the bottom of the boat.
