mounting a 9.9 outboard on a inboard outdrive boat?

I have a old slickcraft boat that has a bad motor and 888 mercruiser outdrive. I want to mount a 9.9 outboard on this boat and use it for a small lake fishing boat.If I fill in the hole on the transom from the outdrive can I buy a motor bracket and mount a small outboard ? Thanks for any help guys.
