Mounting a GPS receiver

I am considering mounting a GPS receiver for my FF/GPS combo on the corner of the top of my console/ The GPS head is in the center top of the console. I suppose that the receiver would be partially blocked on the edges by the GPS head. There is about 1' of space between the receiver and the GPS head. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

Re: Mounting a GPS receiver

I put mine on a RAM antenna mount. Got it 6-8 inches higher off the console.

If the question is, will it pick up ok? The answer would be yes...

Re: Mounting a GPS receiver

I just spoke with a guy at West Marine who said he mounted his behind the GPS between it and the windshield and it works fine. I temporarily plugged it in but not mounted it. I'll secure it with some tape and test it next time I go out before I drill any holes.

Below is a pic of how mine is mounted. I have since replaced the 717 reciever with a new 787C2...
