Just bought a 17 foot glasscon boat with a 89 110 hp motor on the back. The question is when the motor was mounted on the transom the motor mount is not all the way down on the transom.Basically the motor mount is held there by the four boults through the back of the transom.is this okay?<br />thanks

Re: Mounting a motor

It has probably been mounted for optimal running height, which is dictated by the relationship of the prop location to the bottom of the hull. Where the outboard is mounted is irrelevant, what you want to look at is the height of the cavitation plate (the largest horsizontal plate above the prop) in relationship to the hull bottom. It should be within one inch of the hull bottom, above or below. On my rig my plate is one inch above the hull bottom, which causes my mounting bracket to be 3/4 above transom. I have a wood shim between bracket and transom top to take up the space.

Jason J's right on. It's perfectly fine. The outboard's transom bracket doesn't necessarily have to rest on the transom. But you can make a spacer like Jason said if it bothers you. :)
