hey guys on my last motor which was a 89 merc 135 it seemed to blow out or cavitate when you hit the throttle. it would rev high and not really go anywhere. the foot of the motor and prop didnt sit below the back of the boat where it was in open water so i guess the boat pushed most of the water away from the prop. should i get a jackplate and lower the foot below the boat of the boat? thx

The first thing to do is to measure the transom on the boat. A 20" transom requires a 20 motor (longshaft). A 25" transom requires a 25" motor (Extra longshaft).

Next measure the motor and see if what you need is what you have. In additon, motors usually provide some way to fine tune the installation. You can raise or lower the motor a few inches to dial it in.
