Hello all, I'm pretty new to this boating business, so please bare with me if the question sounds stupid.

My new to me boat is a tri-hull Anchor fiberglass with a 55hp Johnson. I'm wanting a transom mount trolling motor but the space on either side of my outboard is only 6", so there is no room. So, I'm wanting to bolt a plate or bracket off to the flat part of the transom to accept the trolling motor. What have you folks built to mount your motor, pictures sure would help.

Thanks tashasdaddy, nice option. But it sounds as though you might be telling me that a bow mount motor might be a better option. Is that so?. I find bow mounts to be generally more expensive.

they are more expensive, but worth the cost. i personally have a bow mount wireless control motor. i can control it from any where in the boat.

I agree on a windy day a transon mount is unuseable. Boat will be out of control. Straight tolling like for trout or Salmon the transom mount car work on day with light to no wind.

Working a shore line or a shallow area for Bass very hard to control the boat from the transom. The only hope is to go backwards.

Sounds like my boat's getting a bow mounted motor ;). What an awesome web site this is. I can't get this kind of information from the marine place close to home. Thanks guys, I appreciate it. :)

Depending on your boat size, where you fish on the boat and your particular needs, you might consider purchasing/making an adaptor for a transom mount trolling motor:

If you tend to fish from the front of the boat and have a smaller craft, this may be a viable option.

Just a thought - they range from $40-80 depending on where and what you buy. You might see if anyone here has done something similar.

I actually have a transom mount trolling motor and I like the control you get when back trolling along a submergent weed line. But be ready to get splashed especially if the waves are up.

I also bought a bow mount used for $100 in good working condition (36lb thrust) - just haven't had the time to mount it on the boat. But if cost is a factor, you can look in the used trolling motor market.

Well, we're sorta land locked here in Alberta where my boat will be spending most of it's fishing time. Just a few lakes that are not that nasty, waves are usually not a problem. That bracket that AZ shows in the picture, heck I could build one of those with the materials in my shop. Food for thaught.
