Mounting an outboard engine question

When installing my 1972 40 HP Evinrude, are there specifications as to how deep the motor should be in the water? Or, how deep (or shallow) does the prop goes below the bottom of the boat?

I know there are issues with "drag" or something called cavitation etc.

How would you mount your 40 HP Evinrude?

your cavitation plate should be about a 1/2" below the deepest part of your hull. And I would mount my motor with my hands. ;)
