Mounting an outboard

My buddy is putting a 115 yammie jet on a ski barge. should the leading edge of the intake grate be level with the bottom of the boat? he thinks that it can be a little higher but were not sure. we want to get this goin tomorrow so any help would be appreciated. thanks j.

I would keep the intake fairly even with the bottom of the transom...You will get a good flow of water to the intake, and there isn't any drag until you go below the hull...just a thought

Actually, you should be looking at the relationship of the cavitation plate to the bottom of the boat.<br /><br />The cav. plate should be even to slightly above the bottom, as a starting point.

DJ...it has a jet leg on it so there is no cavitation plate, just an intake, and that should be at or within an inch of the bottom. I like to mount the intake about an inch above and see how it handles for the owner, most the time it'll cavitate too much so I move it down to even...just a thought
