I am helping a friend get a fiberglass Hustler bass boat on the water. We are completely recreating the electrical system due to it's condition. So we are planning to place two batteries in the bilge area in the back. One starboard for the outboard and general ships electrical, one midships for the trolling motor and as a backup to the first. The fuel tank sits port. The bilge area is vented and covered. The floor of the bilge is the lower half of the fiberglass hull and I plan on sanding the areas where the battery boxes will go clean. Then cut a piece of 3/4 in plywood slightly larger than the footprint of the box, coat it in polyurethane (I can't find marine grade plywood in my area), wrap it in fiberglass cloth and coat it liberally in epoxy and glue it in place. Then attach the battery box strap to this wood platform with screws, place the battery box on top and we are done. Sounds good? Any thoughts?
