mounting engine

Hey all!<br /><br />Just bought my first boat last fall and been fixing it up... have a new transom in it now and looking to put the engine back on.<br /><br />I'm not sure if the engine was mounted proplerly the first time. As it sat before the top edge of the prop is even with the bottom of the hull. Is that to high or right on?<br /><br />It's a Mercury 900 and boat

Welcome!! Looks like a fun ride.<br /><br />That depends on the make and style of the prop and how it works in relation to that hull design. For some it might be too high, some too low. <br /><br />I'm guessing if its something like a 3 blade Merc SS its probably OK. If its something like a 4 blade Turbo its too low. Actually too low for a Turbo 3 blade.

thanks Dhadley!<br /><br />I need a new prop anyway so while @ the marina I will find out where it should be mounted. Thought maybe there was a standard.<br /><br />I'll update once I find out more.<br /><br />Cheers!

Took my prop off and headed up to the local marina with my engine specs. From the prop they noticed it was getting cavitations burning and suggested to mount the engine a bit lower then before. <br /><br />I followed their suggestions and dropped it down so the cavitations plate was even with the bottom of the hull. Took a bit of "custom" fabrication but got it there... <br /><br />Now just have to get the seats, carpet, steering and hydraulics installed... not THAT much. haha
