Mounting my Mercury outboard , off center

Hey everybody, I am trying to mount my old 1984 Mercury inline 6 with a jet on an old Kenner Fishnski barge boat that I bought. I made some 3/8 " plates to jack the motor up to accommodate the jet and when I started to measure for height I realized that the set back mount ( angle aluminum ) Is not centered to the drain plug that is centered in the middle of the transom. One side is 7 inches to the drain and the other is 8 3/4 " . If I mount it as is the motor will not be centered. Would this effect steering ? I mean would it cause the boat to not want to track straight in the water ? A video will help explain. ----thanks
