I just purchased a 2005 50 HP Tracker/Mercury outboard. The
THUMB SCREW ASSEMBLY is not on the engine. Can this be mounted using the 4 other bolt holes and not using the thumb screw ? Thinking that this might not of had one in the first place.

It would be fine as long as the transom is in good shape and you use some strong backing so the bolts don't eat through the wood of the transom.
If you intend to remove the outboard often then this would not be a good thing.

If it was my boat, I'd bolt it down. I've actually done it before and I like the security that bolts provide over a thumb screw.
