Hello all.....I am fixin to mount this puppy....I have a couple of question though...I am sure this great forum has the answer.

1) The rubber seal that is in place around the shield, its in pretty good shape, no tears or rough spots. Is there anything I could put on it to extend its life? I was actually thinking of a petroleum jelly or somehting....

2) When I took the shield off, there was ALOT of (what seemed like) caulking. It was around the edge and the bolts that mount the thing. I got new rubber gromments for the bolts, have nice new stainless bolts. Is caulking the proper procedure, and if so what type is best?

Thanks

Re: mounting stern shield

Install a new seal. That one is flat. A new one is round and about 3/4" in diameter.
When you get your new seal, the seam where you cut it and put it together goes anywhere across the top of the transome shield, cut to length and cut straight and glue together.
