Mounting things to hull.

Just another two sleeps till I get my shiny new boat. However I was curious, I was planning on transfering my 6mnth old fish finder to the new boat, but am leary of putting screws into a brand new transom. What is the best way to seal these screws to prevent premature transom damage (rot)?

4200 or 5200 sealer.

Thanks, should I pre-drill the holes to prevent fracturing the fiberglass? Or will they hold better if I do not?

Absolutely pre drill and put some 4200 or 5200 in the holes and on the threads of the screws.

Consider the location before you drill.... you will not want to move it once it is mounted.

If this is a fiberglass hull you could consider the epoxy mounting method in the bilge...no holes at all...

The 4200 works fine to seal the holes if you go the drill route..
Measure at least twice,then drill...

Thanks everyone, I figured pre-drilling was correct, I just wasn't sure which is the best sealant to use. Fortunately 5200 is available locally for me..and it's what I used on the old boat. The nice thing about the old boat was that I didn't really care about a misplaced hole...the new boat is a different story.

Mount a small piece of poly or plastic to the boat first, then screw transducer into that. That way if you need to relocate or change transducer you can drill as many new holes without compromising the transom.
