Does anybody know the basics on mounting a bowmount trolling motor on a fiberglass boat?Do you use some kind of backer under the lid or what?As far as electrical goes, what's the easiest way to wire it? It's a 40lb.thrust 12volt.I plan on using at least a 105amp deep cycle battery.any help would be great thanks!

when i put mine on i put a 1/4 inch aluminum plate under the deck and bolted through it too. i also used a seperate trolling battery. use good heavy wiring with a 50 amp breaker in the hot side

GUNNY,

AGREE WITH NORMAN. 8 SHOULD BE OK AS LONG AS THE BATTERY ISN'T MOUNTED 20 FEET AWAY. A PIECE OF PLYWOOD WORKS OK UNDER THE DECK. MAKE SURE YOU USE BIG WASHERS IF YOU USE WOOD.

thanx it's-a-sweater! Definitely need something to disperse load on the fiberglass!Good idea! Battery will probably end up about 3-4ft away.Trying to keep it close.Pressed for room on where to put it.Should of got a fish-n-ski that was set up for it!

Happy New Year Gunny, With 3 to 4 feet distance from your trolling motor Eight ga. wire is plenty big. Good luck with your mounting chore. Norman158 is right on with the aluminum plate under the deck. Happy Boating. Hal
