Mounting Wakeboard Tower to boat?

I am looking at installing a wakeboard tower to my 21' I/O boat. The fiberglass body is 1/4" with thicker sections where something attaches (windshield, side windows, handrails, etc.) Most of the wakeboard tower manufactuers seem to have relatively small mouting plates for the mounts. Seems like there would be a lot of force going through these mounts. Does anyone have experience with the mounts and any problems you have experienced with these towers? <br /><br />Thanks<br />Chris

monster tower recommend that your fibreglass body must be at least 10mm thick for installing there tower, and if it aint abb fibreglass to the boat were ya gonna mount the tower to make it thicker

I had a similar issue when i installed our custom tower last year. My solution was to cut the largest backing plate that would fit out of 1/4 thick aluminum. I attached these to the inside of the hull with marine-tex epoxy. It has worked very well so far. No stress cracks around the mount points yet...

Many of the shops around here add plywood to the bottom of the fiberglass where the tower is going to attach to give it a nice thick mounting plate.
